I use Killdisk for DOS bootable CD > http://killdisk.com/downloadfree.htm

What do y'all use??

I used this with my last drive that needed wiping.

It was the last of many, many years of Hitachi drives that went belly-up. I just couldn't bring myself to do another RMA with them.......

Well I did use a drill on a couple of old drives recently rather than formatting and such...but what software do you use Jefn hammers is hardware?.?.

I hit it pretty softly with the hammer.

Funny thing... the drive was the old kind... where the platter was ceramic glass. It shattered with one blow and made for a really nifty rattle.

Though, to be honest, it was already rattling when I smashed it. It was a Hitachi drive, after all.......

Killdisk is my software of preference also. There's some 5-10 free wiping software out there today, I expect all will do a proper job.

Yeah, I'm really happy with Killdisk and I have Easeus Partition Manager Free also to wipe partitions and such with...I just wanted to start a new thread and thought I'd stir some controversy...Jefn still hasn't told us what he uses to wipe drives that he wants to re-use tho'.....:bummed:

I don't wipe disk that I re-use, personally. I just delete the partition. If you ask me, disk wiping is just when you're selling or RMA'ing a drive and you don't want strangers to be able to recover all your sensitive info. No?
