Ok, I'm going to go ahead and take the financial hit and get the parts to replace my 939 system, but I just can't help that I'm replacing old parts with... well... old parts

Foxconn A78AX-S AM2+/AM2 AMD 770 ATX AMD Motherboard - Retail
G.SKILL 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual
AMD Athlon II X2 240 Regor 2.8GHz Socket AM3 65W Dual-Core Processor Model

$175.54 after shipping, with a $15 mail-in.

I was trying to keep it under $150, even cheaper if possible.

any ideas?

I'll be pairing it with:
ATi HD2900XT
AverMedia TV Tuner (PCIe 1X)
Hauppauge PVR150 (PCI)
Wireless LAN Card (PCI)
and an ePower PUMA II, maybe an Earthwatts 500W depending on that 2900XT's power suck radius. :P

Basically, trying to create a low power, quite HTPC, at low cost, but with some extra horsey power for folding, and maybe future needs.

Looking for low budget suggestions.

I also have a member at the AMDSF offering me a Phenom 9850, 2x1GB KVR DDR2 533, and an ASUS M3A78T, comming in at 165, more than I want to spend, but very enticeing.

What I may do is nab the 9850 for $50, and the above, that puts me right at $150, but that ASUS is very enticeing....

thoughts? ideas? suggestions? pwease?

Seriously, dont touch the AMD Phenom series. Get the Phenom 2's. A 9850 wont do any good but cause issues, they arent the best OC'ers and horrible performance.

I doubt all that will punch in at less than $150... or will it?

Because that's about my budget. lol!

So far, I've nipped my purchase down to $153, shipped, which i think is great.
The AMD Phenom 9850, and I agree, a Phenom II would be worlds better, but they are, as such, out of my budget.
a kit of 2x1GB OCZ Gold DDR2 800
and an ECS A780GM-A ULTRA ---OR--- ASUS M4A77D

Once I get the motherboards figured out, I'm ready to purchase.... but now I find myself getting ready to look up the AMD 8xx launch date.... lol. I would like to get the rig up and running relatively soon. I have all the other parts, and that would just leave me waiting for the HD2900 from ionizd, should make for a good package.

But I love my Foxconn A7DA-S, so I know I'd love that A79A-S, lol, the 550 was a chip that I looked at before I brought my budget back to more resonable proportions, and that ram...yeah...when did ram get so expensive? i bought the 8GBs in my current rig for $70...all 8.... now you can barely get 4GB for that.

[edit]yeah, i'm seeing the 890s out in Late May, Early June, just from a brief bing/google search. that would be too far out :(

well we'll see where we are both at after the wars. the 550 is going to get used for it so you can see how it does. dont know if the foxconn would unlock it though. gee now that i think of it i have a 9950 phenom that might be available soon also. i see a i7 920 in my future soon so i might have to part with some of this amd stuff.

Awwww....don't leave the dark side yet, there's always bulldozer and bobcat. :)

No worries on unlocking though, I've seen to many unlocks go bad, both in person, and through the AMD forums. lol, I no longer have the stomach for it. :P

hehe, yeap, you have too many PCs :P

Just compared that 9850 to some other $50 CPUs... yeah, I think I'll stick with the 9850 :hysterical:

Well, let me ask you guys this, CPU and RAM aside, of the two boards I listed a few posts up,

the ECS A780GM-A ULTRA and the ASUS M4A77D, which would you get. I just can't help but think the ECS wins the numbers game, but it seems too good a price over the ASUS. so either ASUS has inflated their prices again, or I can expects headaches with the ECS.
