So I was givin an abit kv-80 with processor, hsf, and ram.

using my case and power supply from an older socket A system.

I cannot for the life of me get this thing to power on. He assured me it worked (either way it was free).

I removed all cards, ram, and devices except cpu and hsf. Still no power. Checked on another mobo powerd up fine so the case switch is good. Switched power supplies, no power. changed cmos battery.. no power

Everything on the mobo looks intact, no buldging or blown capacitors.

I do get the green light, so i know there is some power getting to the motherboard. I

It is removed from the case and sitting on cardboard right now, with no change

I get no fans spinning, nothing.

Any ideas? I am going crazy.

Just figured i would ask, did you by chance remember to hook up the 4pin CPU Power Connector thats
between the cpu socket and the I/O Panel.
Q9650 - Asus Rampage Forumla - Mushkin DDR2 1066mhz - MSI 5870 - Koolance Exos LT Water Cooled - BFG 800w

Q9650 - Gigabyte EP45T-USB3P - G.Skill DDR3 2133mhz - ATI x1300 - 2x WD Raptor's Raid 0 - Corsair H50 Water Cooled - PC P&C750

Q9550 - DFI LP UT-X48-T2R - Corsair DDR2 800mhz - Sapphire 4870X2 - Zalman 9700NT - Corsair 850w

If you are refering to the block 4 pin one ,then the answer is yes yes.

No.

First. Clear the BIOS using the CMOS jumper without the PSU attached for 10 minutes.

Make sure the HSF is connected to the CPUFAN header. And double check that the CPU is seated properly.

In order to POST any board, 1 stick of ram and a videocard are needed.

Do not have this unit inside the case, cause if it was truely working before you got it and you seated it in a case prior to trying, it could be the case or the wiring that is preventing the boot.

alright, so there seems to be an issue with the cmos jumper, there isn't one. There are 3 yellow ones, but they are all individual to each pin, but nothing covering two of the pins leaving one empty. Can I use a jumper thing off the back of a cd-rom , or is it different?

Never had to do this before so yeah.. i've already tried pulling the battery for 30min, and leaving the system without power as well.

The motherboard is sitting on a piece of cardboard on my counter. Problem now is i decided to use the case i was going to use for something else, since i got impatient. So now i have no power switch, I guess ill have to try shorting out the pins, but never done that before either.

The motherboard as onboard video/lan. I've had ram/hdd/cdrom hookedup at one point, just never seen a change. I get no power at all, but all of the psu's are functional. tried them all on other systems and they work fine.

Without a CMOS jumper in the "Normal" position the board probably
won't boot... You can use one from a CD/DVD drive as I believe the
spacing between the pins is the same...

As stated, you can use one from a CDROM. So, if the CCMOS1 jumper is 3 pins and missing the jumper, this would prevent starting on some boards. Same as when its set to the clear position.

Power Switch is not needed, as you only touch the two power pins for 1.2 second to start it....use a flat head screwdriver.

alright, so i thought id try again for some more help since you were all so helpful.

processor is a 2800+ sempron

currently only running at 1.6ghz any idea what settings need to be changed to fix this.

I overclocked my 2500+ on my nforce2 board, but I can't seem to find the settings on this board.

any help is welcome :)

> Boot into BIOS

> Select "Load Optimized Settings"

> Save and exit (F10)

If the BIOS supports Sempron's that will set the proper settings...

You will not find the same settings available on a VIA chipset
board that you did on an nForce2 board... Most you can hope for
is to be able to raise the FSB...

there's very little that you can do on a KV-80 - it simply wasn't designed for overclocking but as a cheap mobo for non-demanding work.
