I have an L1N64 ASUS motherboard with two FX74 processors and I am using GEIL Ram. It is PC6400 And 800Mhz. This is where I am losing it.... I was away for like 9 months and had to redo everything when I got back. When I get back the GEIL forums are closed. That was where my timings were when RAYMO helped me when I first biult this system.

So I can tell you that the ram has orange heat spreaders and that is was supposed to be 4-4-4-12 which it was not set at coming out of the box. I have 4 GB 4 sticks. the voltage says 2.1 if i remember correctly. I remember whatever Raymo suggested ( which was what GEIL suggested and Raymo explained what it all meant sort of) Is what I set it to and it ran great. So here is the settings in the BIOS that I need to know what to set them at:

MEMCLOCKS

CAS

TRCD

TRP

TRAS

Memory Timing either 1T or 2T

MCT timing mode.......Auto, limit, manual .. If anything but auto is selected then two other settings show up. they are:
TRRD

TRC

Then a few more under that

Bank interleaving and a few more that I am sure I never did anything with.

I would appreciate it if someone could let me know how to set those and what to set them at so I wont ruin my system.

thanks in advance

You have a 4x1GB kit? Is that what you meant?
Other than the DRAM, leave your voltage settings at [AUTO] for now.
CAS - 5
TRCD - 5
TRP -5
TRAS -15
Memory Timing - 2T.
Leave the MCT Timing mode at [AUTO] for now.
Not the best manual in the world.
Report back.

my timings came already at 5 5 5 15 and i had changed them last year . Raymo had me set them at 4 4 4 12 and then i was away for almost a year and when i reset my pc up something happened when i was gone for the year( maybe someone used the pc or something like that) and all the settings in my bios were back to default. now i have to try to remember what I had everything set on. I know the whole pc was overclocked but I cannot remember by how much.

I am currently running windows7 and the experience benchmark says that my
processor is 7.1 Video card is 5.9 gaming graphics 5.9 disks are 5.9 and RAM is 5.5

When I had vista ultimate installed every mark was 5.9 but that is as high as vista went. windows 7 now goes to 7.9 and I cant figure out why the Ram is lower on windows7 but everything else is the same except the processor is higher because it can now score higher. seems to me there is no reason why my RAM is the weaker part of the system since its decent RAM. And when I biult this system it was considered one of the best when 800Mhz ram was the fastest.

also I have 4 GB it came in 1GBx2 kits.. meaning there were 2 sticks in each kit having 2 kits to equal 4 GB total

Last night I actually set the RAM to 4 4 4 12 and voltage to 2.1 which is in the red I guess it means its high. But it works fine like that and did not raise the score off 5.5 at all.

I cannot understand why if the bench is measuring memory operations per second and it is clocked from 5 5 5 15 and auto voltage to 4 4 4 12 and 2.1 volts how its showing the same operations per second and still scoring 5.5. There has got to be something I am missing in the timings to make it work exactly the same at different Speeds. That is if those settings have anything to do with speed.

thanks for the help chuck, I do appreciate it.

No prob.
64 bit W7?
Could be the OS is placing greater demand on the memory.
If you aren't having any issues with 4-4-4-12 then leave those where they are.
9 times out of 10, 4 stix don't behave very well with 4 timings (even at default) which is why I suggested the 5s.
Also, if the system was idle for almost a year, chances are that the CMOS battery simply discharged and the BIOS just forgot everything. Probably exactly what happened.

its 32 bit
do you think if i take a stick out it would perform better? seems like the OS and hardware is using almost 2 GB of memory just to run

2 sticks always performs better than 4
2.1v minimum with 4 sticks though
Chuck's right on the money and his timings are safe and require less voltage

so I guess now the obvious question is..should I take some ram out or should I just get 2 GB sticks and put alot more RAM in? I think the max for this board is 8GB

If it's working without issue, leave it like it is.

Hello again!
Everything is working great at 4 4 4 12 and volt set at 2.1
please let me know what the MCT timmings should be because I want to get the most out of this RAM to get the expereince number up since it is the lowest out of all parts of my system. I want at least 5.9 out of it and its at 5.5 now. I want to at least try to get that.
http://www.overclock.......8-GL&tool=3
the link is some reviews that some people made on this RAM. one person said they had this to 3 4 4 12. I wonder if I can get it to do that.
Also another guy said he got it to 2.2v another said 900mhz
I would like to try these speeds but I would like to know if there is anything else I need to change to get it there like FSB and that sort of thing. My motherboars is the L1N64 ws and my processors are two fx74s. can I turn the fsb up to get faster mem scores or down?

Also the ram on that page is the exact ram I have 4 GB of

I had that exact same board, and can tell you that it is a little buggy! It's been a while since I had it, could you refresh my memory and tell me how many memory slots it has! I thought it had 8 slots, 4 per cpu? Is that right, or wrong? (I had the dual FX74's to!)

IMO 2.2v for your memory should be fine. Not quite sure if you'll get to 900MHz, maybe 850MHz?

its four slots total ..

it is limited to 800mhz in the bios so im wondering how i can get it past 800mhz. I mean which settings do that? Is it like overvoltage settings and things like that? i know i cant get the cpus past 3.2 or maybe a little higher then that. But my cpus run great scoring 7.1 on windows 7s experience gage.

hey one more thing... is there a way to change the bios program to make it able to overclock past the 800 mhz? or any part for that matter?

No, by tweaking the voltage wont get you any higher MHz, there will be a DDR frequency setting in the bios somewhere.

Your probably getting a low ratting on your memory because it's DDR2 800.

If it's working fine now, I'd just leave it!

That board doesn't OC well!

And if you do manage to OC it a little, you wont notice the difference! Plus it could cause some stability issues.

From what I remember, that board and 2-cpu's were a room heater!
