Big brother is watching...REALLY watching, that is.

I was working on a workaround to get EVGA Precision to autoload at startup without a UAC Prompt (more on that later, lol) and was doing so via Task Scheduler. While in there, I started clicking on the list scheduled system tasks and came across many information gathering/send info back to MS automated tasks. I'm sure you're not surprised by this but I was surprised to how many there were and what info they were collecting and sending automatically. One is for collecting your disk volume and information. That's the one that I thought was fishy. I certainly hope that does not include actual file information. That would be a certain breach of fair privacy. Anyways, most are linked to permissions somewhere, as in a service or agreement, such as the Customer Experience Improvement Program. I get the feeling that if I delete such a task as the one I described, it will somehow automatically be put back in, I'dunno. Not being paranoid or anything, just really REALLY hate when backdoor not obvious stuff is pulled like this.

And it works just fine with W7.

So far I burn some disk and install office 2007 with no problems. The spysweeper installed ok, but it screwing around with my IE when I got on the internet. You can go to some site but other it would freeze up. I updated all of drivers but the realtek audio driver. Because everytime I would try to download it you had do all this stupid stuff just to get to the site. Plus I'm not having any problems on my network. I can see everything and It even seen my wireless printer HP 6180 and install the drivers and I'm printing to it. Now that is what I like. clapping.gif

Here's Miss Jeannie's Magic Mirror (you're as old as me if you remember this) : How to Upgrade the Windows 7 RC to RTM (Final Release)

But... sigh... it's like really a Windows Ultimate® Hammer you can see yourself in.

Sorry guys... only works if you spend the dough...

Ha! I remember Romper Room, Jef. Was just joking about her mirror thing the other day with a neighbor my age. Too funny!

I really REALLY like Windows 7 and what I was afraid of is happening...that I like it. And in 8 months, I'm going to have let her go...*sniffle* *sniffle*

I keep telling myself to let her loose now but I'm enjoying her too much. Plus, I'm nosing around with some of the more in depth features and settings so I can try and get a more advanced feel for it; ie, help friends with it, etc.

And...like I've said before, everything renders so beautifully graphically on it. I really think it's a noticeable difference.

I'm having a strange issue with the Win 7 Ultimate RTM 64 bit. I ran CCleaner the other day and got hundreds of "ActiveX/COM" errors. I deleted them, then I ran CCleaner again today, and they had reappeared! So I posted in my Forum and Greybear suggested I run HiJack This, which found a bunch of missing files, which I told it to "fix or delete" They also came right back.

This is what I get from CCleaner:

The ActiveX stuff seems to me from Windows Media Center. Missing files are from all over.

I'm wondering if anyone here running the RTM is finding these same problems? Or maybe I got a crappy download? Everything seems to be running O.K., I just don't like seeing all these errors. Chris.

Odd question to ask.

Preface: in XP Pro 32-bit, under Properties for each partition, I have the box "un" checked that allows for that drive and it's files to be indexed for faster searching. I believe XP prevents you from unchecking this box for the System folder. I have not/will not allow the XP update for Windows Search. I am still able to search anywhere and anything, am happy, and have no issses there.

Problem: I can't search for a darn thing this way on W7. lol I see there is not an official "service" for indexing but there is an option for it to be installed via Programs and Features|Turn Windows features on and off. I also see the dreaded Windows Search option there...uhh, no.

So what do I need to do to be able to search as I do in XP? Should I add the Indexing service via Programs and Features or should I simply tick the box under Properties for each partition, allowing for contents to be indexed? If using the Indexing service is different than ticking the box, then how is it different?

Thank you.

Such a deal...

79.99 GBP = 130.906 USD... and the deal gets better on 1 January (provided the exchange rate is the same), when 99.99 GBP = 163.64 USD

United Kingdom Pounds United States Dollars 1.00 GBP = 1.63653 USD - 1.00 USD = 0.611048 GBP

And I didn't see anywhere that the 119.99 USD suggested retail for the Home Premium Upgrade has an expiration date.

Ya, but jefn, until now the Europeans weren't getting ANY deal...

The 79.99 GBP = 130.906 USD is their equivellent of our $50 USD pre-
order... Before now I believe it was all full price for them period...

They are also going to get the "Family Upgrade" deal now as well...

The prices may be higer than for us in the USA but, I believe, it's still
lower than it originally was... wink.gif

Why, yes...I finally figured out how to search for files in Windows 7. Thank you for asking. I do miss being able to right click on a folder or drive in Windows Explorer or My Computer to search but I do like the detailed information the new search feature offers, just will take some getting use to.

Click "Start" and at the bottom is "Search Programs and Files" or simply type your search
into the address bar at the top of any file... You can even add search filters by clicking
on the bar to the right of the address that says "Search"...

Thanks, Wiz...I'll get use to it, just makes me sad not to have the little barking dog keep me company during my searches anymore. Who's going to feed him and look after him? He gets so very scared during thunderstorms.

Look under your bed .aT-man.

He's been there a while. I hope it's not too late.

I love Windows 7!!!!

So, the only problem pretty much with us jumping straight to Windows 7 for good was that my wife simply refuses to use any program other than HP's photosmart premier that came with the printer. To her credit, she is very good at using it. Anyway...enter XP mode (only works in Professional, Ultimate and Enterprise) that I thought I'd never use. Well, I'm using it. I'm presently installing the HP dinosaur from the CD that refused to run on Windows 7 and it is going very well. I'll update when I've had the chance to thoroughly test its features to let you know whether it works as it should or not.

So for now, good night. Keep your fingers crossed. We may be able to ditch XP as a primary OS very soon!!
